What is customer & consumer insights?
Customer and consumer insights research uses qualitative and quantitative methods to understand what people need, how they decide, how they experience a product or brand, and what would change their behaviour.
The business problem
Problems it solves
- Teams disagree about what customers really want
- Churn or satisfaction is moving and nobody knows why
- Products and messages are designed around assumptions
- Segments exist on slides but don't guide decisions
Questions we answer
What you will know
- Who are our customers, and how do their needs differ by segment?
- What drives choice, loyalty and churn?
- How do customers perceive our brand versus alternatives?
- Which concepts, features or propositions will resonate most?
When to use it

The Hoog approach
What’s different about how we do it
Qualitative depth plus quantitative proof
We explore the 'why' in conversations and size the 'how many' with surveys, so insight is both rich and reliable.
Linked to commercial value
Segments and needs are connected to revenue, retention or cost-to-serve, not left as descriptive personas.
Activation built in
Findings end in specific actions for product, marketing, sales and service teams.
AI-accelerated. Human-validated. Decision-focused.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Which methods are used in customer insights research?
Qualitative methods — in-depth interviews, focus groups, ethnography and diary studies — explore needs, motivations and language. Quantitative methods — online surveys, CATI, NPS and CSAT programmes, concept tests, MaxDiff and conjoint — measure how widespread those needs and attitudes are and which drivers matter most. Most studies combine both.
What is the difference between qualitative and quantitative customer research?
Qualitative research — such as in-depth interviews and focus groups — explores motivations, language and context with smaller samples. Quantitative research — such as surveys — measures how widespread attitudes and behaviours are across larger, structured samples. Most robust insight programmes use both.
How is NPS research different from a customer satisfaction study?
Net Promoter Score measures likelihood to recommend as a single loyalty indicator. A customer satisfaction study examines satisfaction across touchpoints and attributes to identify what drives the overall score. Hoog typically pairs NPS with driver analysis so the score leads to action.
